Royal Order of the Duck

Canvasback Flight No. 3

The Royal Order of the Ducks, unique to the Orient of Texas, had its beginnings in the Valley of Dallas in the 1920s, where the idea of having a club just for the stage crew was conceived.  The Houston branch of the organization, Canvas Back Flight No. 3, was chartered on 10 February 1940.  Over time, the membership of the “Ducks” evolved to include those Scottish Rite Masons of the Valley of Houston who helped before and during the Reunions, and were members of the committees for the Stage, Property, Wardrobe, Music, Sound, Lighting, and Control Booth, as well as members of the degree teams.  The Flight would usually have its annual initiation ceremony, referred to as a “hatching,” at the Double Eagle Ranch in May, and every even-numbered year would hold a banquet in the fall.  After being dormant for several years, Flight No. 3 was reorganized by its remaining members on 25 July 2018.
